Mt. Lassen Motor Transit Has It’s Roots in Northern California

Established around the turn of the century with a stage operation serving the mill workers from Westwood to Susanville, Mineral and Red Bluff, Mt. Lassen Motor Transit rapidly expanded with routes in Oregon and Nevada as well as Northern California. Following World War II the bus line saw a marked decrease in service and eventually reverted to one bus route. In 1952 the office officially moved from Susanville to Red Bluff where they are still in operation today.

The tiny bus line from Red Bluff to Susanville was purchased in 1972 by Steve and Kathleen Jones. In 1980 we bought our first motor-coach and started the tour and charter service which now serves the Redding/Red Bluff/Chico and surrounding areas. (Yes, the little mail/stage still operates daily from Red Bluff to Susanville – the oldest continuing operating passenger stage in California – and makes a great little one day getaway through the mountains to Susanville and back.)

Mt Lassen Motor Transit is family owned and operated, with emphasis on providing personal service! We are here locally to help you with your travel needs in person, by phone and now by internet.

In September of 2025 Steve and Kathleen’s grandson, Eric Watson and his wife Danielle took over the business with plans to continue all charter and tour operations and grow the company!
